Map the Decision Process (MDP)

Overview

This project described and mapped the decisions-making process, including participants, timing, milestone, inputs and outputs (deliverables), to improve productivity of scenario-based project planning.

This was the first project identified in the Capital Projects technology Roadmap for Element 1: Scenario-based Project Planning, and therefore is the predecessor to all other projects in that Element Area. Work on this project began in early 2005 and was completed in the summer of 2005. The final deliverable will be a work process map for the Scenario-based Project Planning activity.

Project Activities

  • Definined the necessary Roadmap project control plans, including charter, schedule and project plan, resourcing plan (in terms of skill sets and work hours), communication plan, financial plan, etc.).
  • Staffed and initiated the project.
  • Identified the high-level steps in the SbPP process.
  • Identifyied the decisions made in each step of the process, and the information flows (inputs and outputs) of each step. Included the information/knowledge needed by each participant in the decision-making process and the source, including business and client requirements, for the facility and prioritization of those wants.
  • Re-engineered and streamlined the work process to create a "next-generation" work process.
  • Documented and published the results.
