Usage

Intended to be used as a component parts catalog methodology in conjunction with ISO-10303 (STEP) product data exchange.

Scope

ISO 13584 is a series of International Standards for the computer-sensible representation and exchange of parts library data to provide a mechanism capable of transferring parts library data, independent from any particular system.

Having the following three major application fields:

  • The capacity to build taxonomy of parts and definition of technical properties of parts
  • With a taxonomy defined, ISO 13584 provides for the exchange of data
  • The capacity to add representation to all of the objects defined in the standard

Status & Plans

Initiated in 1990.  Current Status:

  • Part 1 Overview and fundamental principles (International Standard 2000)
  • Part 10 Conceptual model of parts library (deferred)
  • Part 20 Expressions (IS 1998)
  • Part 24 Logical model of supplier library (IS under printing)
  • Part 25 Supplier library with aggregate values and explicit content (DIS, under ballot)
  • Part 26 Supplier Identification (IS 2000)
  • Part 31 Geometric Programming Interface (IS 1999)
  • Part 42 Methodology for structuring part families (IS 1998)
  • Part 101 Geometrical view exchange protocol by parametric program (IS under print)
  • Part 102 View exchange protocol by ISO 10303 conforming specification. (DIS, under ballot)

Plans

  • Official work at ISO will cease
  • Standards for different industries will likely be created to standardize the content
