Usage

XML file or message electronic data exchange for equipment information.

Scope

Facilities equipment basic information (> 300 types) supporting equipment list usage scenarios.

Detailed information about centrifugal pumps, shell and tube heat exchangers, centrifugal pumps, and electric motors to support equipment data sheet usage scenarios, including in support of bid request for quotation (BidRFQ) and bid quotation (BidQuote).

Material properties ( > 280) supporting basic or detailed material property exchanges.

Characteristics

See Interoperability Tutorial for details on terms used below.

Domain

Facilities equipment

Standard Type

deFacto

Standards Process

Implement then standardize.

Intellectual Property (IP)

Royalty-free open software license for XML schemas (download here).

Cost of one interface

Estimated to be $10K - $50K.

File Format

XML

Focus

Usage-driven. Defined exchanges for BidQuote and BidRFQ for equipment datasheet.

Scope

Core architecture is re-usable by multiple domains, e.g., pumps and exchangers share common generic equipment models.

Scalability

Scalable/Inexpensive, can be used with spreadsheets and larger applications or databases.

Extensibility

User-extensible XML schemas.

Model Content

Mix of broad/shallow for equipment in general, and narrow/deep level of detail for centrifugal pumps, shell and tube exchangers, centrifugal fans and electric motors.

Usage

Primary usage is exchange files or messages associated with specific transactions, e.g., with request for quotes, quotations or purchase orders.

Exchange Content

Data only (data model information contained in separate XML schema definition files).

Data model approach

Partitioned domain approach, where some core domains are reusable and the remaining domains which are subject-specific.

Benefits

5% reduction in equipment procurement costs.

Status & Plans
