Data Standards Clearinghouse (DSC)

Project Manager: Tom Teague, (713) 728-9140 or teague@eplantdata.com

Overview

This project develops and maintains an online information resource intended for those who wish to understand more about standards bodies, their current activities, and their ongoing activities.

Throughout this project, we continuously inventory the various standard organizations, identify others, and seek their input in identifying relevant standards for our industry. If you are aware of other groups working in this area, please send an e-mail to Tom Teague at the address above.

Project Status

  • Completed and published initial survey in 2002
  • Updated web site in 2003
  • Redesigning web site and updating content in 2005

Business Case

By understanding the current state of industry standards, technology users are better able to assess their technology choices and make more informed decisions about when to implement technology that is 1) more interoperable with others in the supply chain, 2) more likely to be supported by technology suppliers in the future, and 3) less expensive. By working collectively and sharing the costs to maintain information on evolving standards, participants have access to more complete information at a fraction of the cost of developing and maintaining the materials individually.

Project Activities

We accept suggestions from FIATECH members or standards groups to include information on the standards activity in the data standards clearinghouse. At regular intervals we seek input to update information in the information clearinghouse.
