Capital Facilities Information Handover Guidelines

Project Manager: Mark Palmer, 301-975-5858 or mark.palmer@nist.gov

Overview

This project, led by the National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST), collaborated with other industry organizations to develop information handover guidelines for the major sectors of the capital facilities industry.

Project Status

Building on the principles described in the "Capital Facilities Information Handover Guidelines," this project is initiating guides for the general buildings sector and for the process facilities sector. General buildings include: commercial offices, retail, distribution & warehouses, multi-unit residential, health care, entertainment, religious & cultural, hotels, motels, convention centers, government offices, education, sports, and correctional facilities.

The "Guide for Process Facilities" will be developed in cooperation with the new FIATECH ADI project, Accelerating Deployment of ISO 15926. This project is designed to improve the current situation where organizations specify different requirements for structuring the delivery of project information, requiring EPCs to spend extra resources to comply with these unique requirements, and thereby adding extra costs to the delivery of capital projects. The "Capital Facilities Information Handover Guidelines" provide a framework for the consistent definition and delivery of information packages to be transferred among participants in capital facilities projects.
