Guidelines for Replicable Buildings

Initiated in 2010, this project has developed a guideline now being adopted by state and local governments across the U. S. that eliminates costly multiple plan reviews for replicable buildings — residential, commercial, restaurants, hotels, and other occupancies.

Benefits

This project can reduce by up to 60 percent the costs and time involved in building regulatory processes while improving public safety and construction code compliance. The guideline released in early 2011 by the International Code Council (ICC) and Fiatech to jurisdictions across the U. S. is now available for adoption and use by state and local governments. Where it is now in place, companies with replicable buildings are able to obtain single plan reviews for multiple construction projects in participating jurisdictions, achieving savings of up to $200,000 per building in plan review time.

In 2011-2012, the Fiatech members participating on this project will aid in gaining more jurisdiction adoption of the guideline and will work with the ICC to obtain its incorporation within the body of its code documents, further aiding adoption and use of this regulatory streamlining tool.

Opportunities/Status

This project is open to all Fiatech members.
