Project configuration is labor-intensive and often occurs later than desired, resulting in rework. Each EPC maintains its own catalog data. Each software vendor has its own format. This makes sharing information in joint venture projects difficult. Suppliers could help, but proprietary formats make information exchange more difficult than it needs to be. Today's integrated project environments include multiple parties that are responsible for design, construction, and commissioning of the final facility. Turnover to the client requires close collaboration and integration of design deliverables without compromising intellectual property while minimizing changes for company work-processes. The current business model dictates that time be spent converting project catalogs' different formats and systems.
The results of this project will allow easier and faster project setups and improve the quality and re-usability of information. It also will enable information exchange in joint venture environments.
The project team needs specialists in planning, design, procurement, construction, and information integration and data management to work together to define catalog definitions to allow transformation between systems and to simplify project setup in joint venture projects.

This project will produce definition of requirements for catalogs and specifications, including geometry for exchange with design tools. Minimum requirements will be defined to meet material management and construction deliverables. The results of this project will be shared with Fiatech's Data Management & Information Integration team to develop the associated neutral file definitions to support minimum exchange requirements.
