The handover of engineering information from Engineering, Procurement, & Construction (EPC) firms to Owner organizations continues to be a major challenge in the industry. During the design/build phase of major capital projects, volumes of data and documentation—spanning thousands of tags and millions of data records—are generated by EPC's. Owners are faced with the daunting task of searching through this vast amount of information, validating its correctness, and repurposing it for maintenance, risk assessment, compliance, and operations. The current approach to handover, whether paper-based or digital, introduces unnecessary risks, cost, and delays.
AVEVA commissioned a survey of 50 decision-makers at Owner-Operators on their approach and concerns about handover. This session discusses findings from this survey and presents recommendations for improvements and solutions to today's handover process. This will allow engineering information to be handed over in a controlled incremental manner, provide earlier visibility into quality and compliance issues, facilitate collaborative feedback, and enable an easier transition from handover to operations and setup of operational systems. These solutions deliver ROI both in the cost of delivery and the longer-term operational efficiency of the capital asset.
