Austin, TX, May 21, 2012 —Fiatech has announced that J.P. (Peter) Blake, director of the project delivery group for Hatch Chile, has been elected to the position of chairman of Fiatech. Blake’s two-year term begins May 21, 2012. He will lead Fiatech and its Board of Advisors in all aspects of the organization, including strategic planning and project selection and funding.
Blake, a 38-year Hatch veteran, begins his two-year term as Fiatech chair with the completion of service by Jerry N. Gipson, Jr., senior director of manufacturing & engineering IT for The Dow Chemical Company. Gipson has served as chair since 2010.
Blake, in his wide-ranging experience in the capital projects industry, has had assignments in equipment design, project engineering, and project management. He assisted with Hatch’s initial forays into CAD implementation and global systems as well. During his almost four decades with Hatch, he has carried out assignments in feed systems, power trains, refractories, off-gas systems, hot metal and slag handling systems for high power electric smelting furnaces, and design and installation of hydrometallurgical works.
“We’re very pleased to have someone with Peter’s wealth of experience to serve as Fiatech chair,” said Ray Topping, Fiatech director. “Jerry Gipson served us exceptionally well. We look forward to Peter’s leadership, particularly since he has been active on our Board of Advisors for several years.”
Blake holds a degree in engineering from the University of Waterloo. His most recent work with Hatch has been on international projects for the engineering giant in Chile.
